Just Before Sunrise

Skies in the east
deep violet, blue
and rose and orange
cool air before a hot day

smooth morning light
inside the bedroom
low gurgling sounds
from the seashore

sheets in disorder
one of the high heels
tumbled aside
clothes scattered

still asleep
breathing, smiling
light sunburn
on round shoulders

the silly old fool
who should chide
late school-boys
sends first tiny rays

meek golden showers
on room walls
pleasant instant
why so ephemeral

oh yes, this is
a good morrow
a deep yawn and
delight in disorder
